Catherderal drawing

In these piece I have used both my drawings and photographs together. Firstly, l thought of destroying the background in the photo so that the person was the most important thing. However, l wanted to do something more than this, so after experimenting with Photoshop l decided to photograph places in Sheffield where l had done people observations. I waited until these places were empty with no people, which created an interesting effect as they are usually very busy. I then overlaid the photographs with my observational drawings, creating scenes that have never happened. I have put a selection of people together that you wouldn’t often see, in a place that they may not have been to before. Perception was very important when creating my pieces. I wanted them to look realistic so the viewer believes the scene. Movement through the photograph was also very important. I also drew the cathedral in Sheffield, which is drawn from observation, but is different from my usual drawing technique. I felt that my first set of photographs with the sketches overlaid were successful but l wanted to create something by way of contrast. As before l was interested in creating scenes that never happened and l still wanted to collate my drawings and photographs to give more detail and depth. I wanted to experiment with drawing in the background from observation then overlaying photos of people. This gave a reverse of the ghostly effect of the images in the first piece. Again the finished piece superficially appeared like something ordinary which is what l wanted to achieve. I wanted to focus on a technique which showed the difference that people can make to a place.

I would like to further experiment with these ideas using different scales and more imaginary worlds in my future work.
